About the role

We feel this is a unique role; by being involved in the making of prototypes for design consultancies. Most jobs are different with the work being one-offs, or short production runs. Being more challenging with few repeat types of work, makes it interesting.

The work is fast paced, as required by our customers, so they can quickly assess their prototypes or new designs. We therefore require our CNC operators to be quick thinking, able to problem solve and have insight. Have an ability to work to short time scales and effectively self-time manage.

We value hard work, creativity, and attention to detail, in a relaxed, informal environment.

Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Proven experience as a CNC Setter/Operator role using 3/4/5 axis machines. Work autonomously and under your own initiative to run programs provided by our internal programmers as per their instructions.
  • Where required, programme machines in line with technical information provided. Set up the tooling required to produce parts.
  • Carry out first offs to ensure parts meet quality and technical requirements specified. You will be working with a mixture of metals and plastics, so experience doing this would be beneficial.
  • Run product batches to technical requirements to a high standard.
  • Check dimensions prior to passing for Inspection. Resulting parts made need to be visibly checked against job specifications and most will be inspected by our internal quality inspector prior to dispatch.
  • Comply with quality and regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to health and safety requirements. You would also be responsible for your own work area and help as a team to maintain the whole CNC department, by keeping it clear of rubbish, spills wiped, clean and tidy.
  • Perform any other duties within your capabilities as directed by the Company.
  • Teamwork is essential; you need to be willing to work with colleagues to make improvements for the department, developing new ideas or methods in engineering to increase efficiency/quality. In addition, get your own work completed in time, and offer help to others to complete theirs.
  • You would need to have a good work ethic with tasks not outlined in your job description, such as pack, tidy store cupboards, stock take, unpack supplies and other tasks specified by the CNC Team Leader to get work completed on time.
  • Demonstrate working to the values of the company.
  • You will report to the CNC Team Leader.
